“ASAN service” and UN joint event


A parallel event called "The Road to Progress: Effective interrelationship of public service and women's involvement in achieving sustainable development goals" organized by "ASAN service" and the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the UN branch in Geneva and other international organizations, as well as with the support of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the UN Women's division was held. The event took place within the framework of the 53rd session of the UN Human Rights Council and was dedicated to June 23 - UN Public Service Day.

During the opening of the event, Chairperson of the State Agency for Service to Citizens and Social Innovations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ulvi Mehdiyev, the UN Assistant Secretary-General and Executive Director of the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) Nikhil Seth, the Head of the Division of the UN High Commissioner for Human rights Tod Holland made a speech.

Ulvi Mehdiyev emphasized the activities of the "ASAN service" centers established by President Ilham Aliyev as part of the successful reforms in the field of public administration in our country, the role of women in increasing the efficiency of the provision of public services and the importance of social innovations applied in this field. The transparent, accessible and efficient public services provided in the "ASAN service" centers are important in terms of ensuring human rights and achieving the goals of sustainable development was also brought to the attention of the participants of the event.

Assistant Secretary General of the UN and Executive Director of UNITAR Nikhil Seth mentioned the importance of providing public services in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and the importance of leading practices such as “ASAN service” in this context.

The head of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Tod Holland, during the relevant sessions of the UN Human Rights Council held in 2018 and 2023, respectively, mentioned the resolution “Promoting human rights and sustainable development through transparent, responsible and efficient delivery of state services goals” adopted at the initiative of Azerbaijan and the importance of the implementation of the activities mentioned in there.

Representatives of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, UN Women, UNITAR and Malaysia acted as panelists in the session moderated by the Deputy Head of the International Public Services Organization David Boyce after the opening speeches.

More than 50 representatives of permanent missions of UN member states, UN branch in Geneva and other international organizations, representatives of international organizations and non-governmental organizations, as well as academic circles took part in the event.

The head of the State Agency held a number of bilateral meetings as part of his visit to Geneva. During the visit, meetings were held with Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Daren Tang, Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Olga Algayerova and Director of SDG-Lab Ozge Aydogan. Within the framework of the meetings, detailed information was given on the goals and directions of activities of "ASAN service", "INNOLAND" Incubation and Acceleration Center, "ASAN Innovative Development Center", as well as "ABAD" and the perspectives of cooperation in relevant directions were discussed.
